About our research
How we fund research
We currently fund schizophrenia research in a way that builds capacity for high quality research. Experienced researchers partner with one or more scientists at an earlier stage to appoint and supervise a PhD student, usually for four years. We fund the fees and living expenses of these ‘Scholars’, each of whom undertakes a research project in the field of schizophrenia and related disorders.
What we fund
We are particularly interested in causes, mechanisms and new treatments, and do not fund projects on health services.
To ensure high quality research, we invite applications from universities and supervisors each year and, with the help of independent reviewers and scientists, fund the best one or two applications. We then maintain a link with the supervisors and scholars, especially through an annual Scholars’ Day to which our supporters are invited. We are delighted to see our scholars go on to gain post-doctoral fellowships and university lectureships.
